to the CCF

That is damage to the coin known as PMD ( Post Minting Damage)
It has taken a hit from something causing indentations in the coin.

Yes, post strike damage--didn't leave the striking chamber with those marks.

Perhaps the rim damage at 12 and 6 o'clock occurred at the same time as these gouges? Hard to say. In any case, welcome to CCF, @mama

Coins minted in 1965, 1966, and 1967 were minted without mint marks, regardless of where it was struck. This was done as an attempt to curb the hoarding of coins
