I am surprised ghe "Continental Dollar" is listed as a U.S coin, and at #14 no less......?

It is now proven it was not known in America until the late 1700's, and that it was most likely intended as a token struck either in England or Germany.

None of the earliest numismatist in the U.S were even aware of this issue.

I was chatting last year with David McCarthy of Kagin's who co-wrote the article. His view is well researched but not really definitive. There are also many things within his story that need further research.

A little more interesting (to me) about David is that he owns the Type 2 Quint, one of only two 2 Quints known which are much more interesting and valuable. A true pattern commissioned by brothers Robert and Gouverneur Morris under their system for U.S. coinage. He believes the Quint is the first U.S. coin.
