I'm considering ordering the 2009 Double Eagle Gold Coin. Any opinions on the coin? I noticed the mint didn't put an actual number on the amount they plan to produce, so I wasn't sure if I should go for it or not. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dorion

1200 bucks is a bit too steep for me and the price of gold is only about 850. That's quite a premium!

That kind of money is not really in my budget right now. If it were, there are some Lincoln Cents that I would rather have.

That about right, almost a 50% gross profit.

If the price of gold drops in the future, then I may have to consider purchasing one of these.

For that price, I'll buy an original St. Gauden Double Eagle. Can't beat the real thing.

I just ordered one along with the two roll package of Kennedy halves. Whether I pay $0.85 for a $0.50 piece or $1,185 for $850 worth of gold, it's all about the same. This is the first Ultra High Relief from the US Mint and it is a beautiful coin. They are already asking $1,300 for it on ebay. No one has paid it yet, but the down side seems fairly low in risk. But I suspect in the year 2109, it should be worth a bit more than I paid for it.

My order is in, with an "expected ship date" of 02/06/09. The Mint has set a 1-coin limit on these. I would actually like to get one more because I expect the secondary-market price to go up. I would like to be able to sell one later at a profit to partially offset the cost of the one I keep.

Just ordered mine. They are "preselling" on ebay for $1795, and a couple already sold.

Mine is on the way. It is pricey but also a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I'm considering buying one of these. It would be nice to know if they were actually going to stick with the "one per household" rule. The mint brochure I got in the mail says they will be reviewing that policy weekly & could lift the restriction at any time. The price is more than I like to spend, but I would buy one if I knew they were going to keep the restriction in place.

I would love to get an Ultra High Relief Eagle, but I'm afraid I cannot afford one right now.

2009Double eagle may cost less later ?Under the new method, the Mint will review metal prices on a weekly basis and reprice gold and platinum coins at 10 a.m. EST each Thursday when necessary. Prices will be based on a five-day average of the a.m. and p.m. prices fixes for the metals on the London market for the preceding Thursday to Wednesday period.[/url]

It's definitely a nice coin, but if I'm going to buy an ounce of gold, I'd rather have a Mexican 50 Pesos or on of the old style gold Libertads. In my humble opinion, the old style Libertads are the most beautiful coins in the world
