Hello,

Does anyone know where I can get Birth Year frames with Cent - Dollar? Also, what condition of coin does one put in a birth year set, BU or Proof? Any help, as always, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich

Jakes Marketplace or Coin Supply Express both carry most of the Capital Plastics birth year holders. What goes in depends on how much I like the kid. Some neices got proof, some got BU, some got nothing.

Also check your local dealers if they have something and in the ads throughout coin magazines. The best ones I have seen have been hand made and put a little extra meaning behind them, just a thought.

"Capital Plastics" is the company that makes the frames.

The hard part is to make sure you get the correct frame for the year!

70s had a big dollar coin (Ike)
79-81 had a small dollar coin,
82+ didn't have any dollar coins,
99+ have 5 quarters each year,
04-05 have two nickels each year,
08+ have 4 Presidential dollars,
and so on....

So if you're thinking you'll just get a few 'Birth Year Frames' and fill them up, you might have to back up a bit. Make sure you know how many coins are in a mint/proof set of the particular year so that you can buy the appropriate frame.

I think either proof or BU would be appropriate. I personally think proofs are prettier. Keep in mind that if you're giving this to a child, the set will one day be opened and the coins will get fingerprints on them and so on...
