I really don't understand what is wrong with people today. I never thought a shootout could happen in a local coin shop.

I can hear it now, "victims shot in back (sort of ) while trying to escape crazed store owner". They will try and sue the store owner and the state will move to take away all legal guns. Legal fire arms belonging to legal owners (I hope) accomplished exactly what they should have, protection. Obviously, these guys were trying to make a illegal withdrawal. The only bad thing that happened here is one of them got away. Jim - Sorry about getting on my soapbox.

California is a State where the criminals have more rights than the victims. Legal gun owners, like myself , won't be able to protect themselves if Sacramento gets their way. Too bad the other bad guy got away. Quote: Legal fire arms belonging to legal owners (I hope) accomplished exactly what they should have, protection.
Darn right!

This is just sad. The employees/proprieters had every right when under threat of robbery, but the chance these boys took to try to rob a coin shop.. and what circumstances might have drove them to it? is just sad.

I know this shop. The staff seems friendly enough, but the neighborhood has seen better days. I was in San Diego on Friday and actually drove past this shop on my way to another coin shop that stocks foreign coins.
I remember about a decade ago, I tried to go into this coin shop while dressed in my fieldwork clothes - blue jeans, t-shirt, flannel over-shirt, work boots, and wind-blown hair. They refused to let me past their security door. I can't really blame them for that.

I like to think of these types of stories as inspiring, because I am glad to hear about the victims shooting back. Sadly, in times like these we will probably hear more and more about innocent people being harmed because they were NOT armed and able to protect themselves from "the bad guys". personally I feel that the concealed weapons permit that my wife and I both carry is worth its weight in gold. (I carry a 40SW and my wife prefers the 9mm)

The sad part is the stupidity of the thieves in the first place:
1. Try to rob a place that you have to be buzzed in and out of. If you hurt someone you will be stuck in there just waiting for the cops to take you to your new home.
2. Any place with bars on the window usually means a gun on the other side. Why go into a place you most likely will not return from.
3. Coins. What are these guys going to do with it when they got it? It would take only minutes for the owners to post the missing pieces and have local stores report any of the stolen items.
It just makes no sense to me, you are willing to rob a place for almost nothing, have you and your partner die for the cause and have a more difficult time raising money for what you stole in the end. Why even try? We are all going through tough times but to risk my life for a couple of bucks makes no sense to me at all. Hopefully they catch the second guy before he does something else and could get someone else killed besides himself.
