So I found this 1978 quarter that is rather interesting I think. At first I thought it was part af the rim damage but it's not it don't line up or match. So after looking under scope it seems as a layer of the one somehow got shaved down and landed sideways at the bottom. I know that sounds stupid but I hope you'll can picture what I'm saying.

@on, first welcome to CCF. Second, my initial thought is the same as yours—that looks a lot like rim damage. I suppose it could be some sort of rolled over Rim Fin, but I would assume plain damage unless you have compelling evidence otherwise.

Just damage, you can see where the coin has taken hits all
around the rim pushing the metal in.
Also it can't be an error variety, is has to be one or the other,
errors and varieties are two completely different things.
