Allen G. Berman, born in 1959, is a renowned American numismatist specializing in medieval and papal coinage. He began collecting coins as a child and later contributed to recataloging medieval collections at the
American Numismatic Society. With a master's thesis on early papal coins, Berman has become a respected expert in his field.
Since 1985, Berman has operated his own business, Allen G. Berman, Professional Numismatist, and authored key works such as Papal Coins (1991) and Coins of the Crusader States (2004). He has also taught courses for the American Numismatic Association and served on the
American Numismatic Society's committee for medieval coins.
In addition to his professional achievements,
Berman created the fictional Kingdom of Bermania in 1974, complete with its own coins under his rule as king Alanus I. This lighthearted project reflects his dedication to fostering enjoyment in the numismatic community, where he remains a respected and influential figure.
