I found this coin in my pocket today and I've never seen anything like it. It looks black but once you put it in the light it appears to be bronze.

Welcome to Numista!

This appears to be a 2014 U.S. quarter dollar commemorating the Great Sand Dunes in the America the Beautiful series (for circulation). If you search online you can find photos of this coin in uncirculated condition.
Your specimen appears to have been chemically treated to create substantial dark oxidation on the surface. In this condition it likely has only face value (25 cents).

The discolouration, probably from some sort of environmental exposure,
would have happened after it left the mint so it would be considered damage.

Most likely a metal detectorist coin. Different spils produce different staining colors.

Nothing in the minting process can possibly make this, so it is post mint damage.
