Extending the US Civil War ironclad theme... Here's a commemorative medal that honors the memory of the Confederate CSS Neuse. It was issued at the time of the US Civil War Centennial (1961-1965).

Quote: what is the metal composition of it? It's bronze with a silver-oxidized finish. I also have an example of the 0.999 Fine Silver version (in Proof) and one of the oxidized bronze pieces. The Proof Silver version originally sold for $10 each; the oxidized bronze for $2.00 each and the silver-oxidized bronze for $3.00 each.

1989 Pitcairn Islands - 1 Dollar - HMAV (His Majesty's Armed Vessel) Bounty Sunk in the shallows of Pitcairn Islands From Wikipedia: Quote: on 15 January 1790 they (the remaining crew of the Bounty - led by Christian Fletcher1) rediscovered Pitcairn Island, which had been misplaced on the Royal Navy's charts. After the decision was made to settle on Pitcairn, livestock and other provisions were removed from Bounty. To prevent the ship's detection, and anyone's possible escape, the ship was burned on 23 January 1790 in what is now called Bounty Bay. Notes: 1 - highlights in Bold are my personal remarks to clarify the statement.
