Sorry, but I don't thimk it's a dd. We'll let the big guys opine on this one. I still get fooled periodically. When I started looking for errors I was excited about everything that looked out of the ordinary until I learned about Machine Doubling, Die Deterioration and normal striking nuances.

Could also be the result of a deteriorating die, but most likely not actual doubling.

Yea, it doesn't really look like a doubled die just Machine Doubling, don't feel Stupid though, I asked the same question on a 1983 reverse with the response " Machine Doubling"

first welcome to the forum. second you are looking way too close. using a 40-60X microscope you will find things that are not there.
if your using a high power scope I would set it aside and get a 20X30X. that's what I use and I have not found anything that wasn't there. but if you look hard enough be surprised what you find, but is it worth anything? in this case no.
