1825 Capped Bust Half O-111 R-3 - Coin Community Forum

Moe145 Pillar of the Community United States 8904 Posts	Posted 09/02/2009 7:09 pm This is the first time I've attempted to determine the variety of the coin I have. I'm guessing this coin is an 1825 Variety O-111 (R-3). Please review and let me know if you agree. (This stuff is cool!) I'm going on the position of the top left star pointing at the Liberty band/hair line and the bottom right star touching the curl of the hair. The curl of the 2 in 1825 pointing straight up is also telling of the variety. I also looked at the doubling of the 50 C on the reverse and it is also indicative of this die marriage. No other variety of the 1825 shows the drastic re-cutting of 50C, plus your coin has all the other markers listed in Overton. Congrats, that's a somewhat scarcer variety. It does look like it's been cleaned, with faint obverse hairlines from wiping and a too-light color. Otherwise it would grade about EF-40. Report this Post to the Staff
