Is it me or do some silver coins "age" or tome more gracefully? I am new to this but, I notice that Mercury dimes seem to "age" consistently the best. Maybe it's just me, but, I can always find an attractive Mercury dime more frequently than any other coin. Adn, it's not I am looking at more Mercury dimes than others.

What coin looks the best to you when toned?

Thank you.

I agree in general, but I'm also a little disappointed in the toning of a bunch of the Mercury dimes that I collected when I was a kid. I thought I was doing a good thing by putting them first into a folder and then shortly after into an album. Then I put the album away for a decade or two and when I got back into collecting and went to dig out my Mercury dime album, many of them toned to a very deep brownish color like this:

It makes my set look a little odd when I have about 2/3 coins that look like that and then another 1/3 that look like nice, regular, silver, circulated Mercury dimes. Oh well...whatever :)

I do agree though that in general, I love the way silver tones and ages. I really can't get enough! Even the most worn, silver coin looks spectacular to me!

Check out the toning on silver Roosevelts. These little guys can get very impressive rainbows and vibrant solid colors. I think I read something about this once comparing the silver composition to Morgan dollars I have owned several of both dime series and I have been much more impressed with the colors that Roosevelts can get in comparison to the Mercury dime. Of course, I am a little biased!

I haven't seen Roosevelts with toning so far. Wish I could find some.

I love dimes. Most of my Roosevelt silver shows no toning, but the few that do tend to tone to a gold/brown color. Is this because I keep them I a Whitman folder? The toning that I see is not unattractive, but the comments from bwbollom about the mercs got me to wondering.

Should I put my Roosevelts in an album? If so, which would any of you recommend?
