ok so I dont have a picture yet, but a guy at work brought in a very interesting dime his son found. it is a Roosevelt dime that has the reverse torch/olive branches struck on to the obverse so it looks like roosevelt is Ceaser! pretty darn cool. I am thinking it could be some sort of struck through partial mirror brockage? how much could this coin be worth? I think he offered it to me for $200. I will have to see again today if that offer still stands. i understand its hard to determine value when you dont have a picture. |

Without a picture it's tough to determine. It doesn't sound like a die clash because the torch/leaves would be on Franklin's chin, not crowning his head. I don't think I can tell without more information or pix.

die clash...
after further research and comparing other pics to the coin, I beleive it to be a die clash.
the obverse and reverse are both clear.
only thing is part of the branch is on the obverse. sounds like a die clash to me..
anyone know the value?

You can see the torch on the top of Roosie's melon? Wouldn't that be the wrong orientation for a "normal" die clash? Is it possible it's one of those vice pressed coins?

There are three possibilities that I can think of off the top of my head.
Flip over double strike, but since it sounds like this is only affecting one side that is out.
Die clash. A common result of a die clash is he leaves of th olive branch being seen at the bridge of the nose.
Hammer piece where someone has put two dimes together and smacked it with a hammer. This could give a lot of detail transfer, but the details will be incuse and in reverse.
