I have a large 25mm Roman with a thin green patina. To my eye there is not any more crud to clean off other than the "rust"? that is under the patina. How should I proceed to clean / finish this coin?

I have just started cleaning coins and do not want to ruin this one. It does show some detail in the right light even though the coin is fairly worn.

The reverse is similar condition with what I think is a fallen horseman image. It has a black patina along with the green and of course the "rust" that I am not sure how to deal with.

I am having trouble getting the image of the reverse to upload. I will try to post it in another post. Thanks. tj

I wouldn't attempt to try and clean it any more. From the profile on the coin I believe it's Constantius II.

That is what I was thinking. All that I have done with the coin so far is to rinse it and apply some light to moderate toothbrushing. I followed with a distilled water soak for a few days, and then an olive soak for the last week or so. It's cool that I got a coin that has cleaned so easily:)

From what I have read my best plan now is to: 1.)let it dry out for a week, 2.) bake it on a low heat to drive out moisture (what temp. is considered a low heat?)for 5 - 10 min., 3.) Apply Min Wax Finishing Wax, 4.) buff & polish. Will this leave the coin looking "rusty"? Should I care? Does this sound like a good plan?

Thanks a lot for the Constantius II lead and all your help! Hopefully with proper finishing I will be able pick out more detail.

By the way how much detail does one need to "attribute" a coin? Sorry to ramble. Mayabe that question should be in a New Topic?
