I got $12 in rolls of nickels today at Wells Fargo. Two of the rolls were machine wrapped, three other rolls were customer wrapped but in tubular rolls, and the other one was a customer roll in flat wrapped. The first 5 rolls produced only 3 keepers, with the oldest being a 1960, but the last customer wrapped roll had coins dated no later than 1949! There were no War Nickels and only one S mintmark, but all 40 nickels were dated from 1938-1949: 1938P x1 1939P x1 1940P x5 1941P x9 1942P x1 1946P x4 1946D x3 1947P x4 1947D x2 1948P x4 1948D x1 1948S x1 1949P x3 1949D x1

Looked through a box on Monday. Only had TWO keepers - both 1940Ps. Definitely my worst box ever. Look through twenty rolls this morning from a new box, only found one - 1943S. The war silver is nice, but I'm fearful that this box might be as bad as the last ...

Well, the last two boxes I've gotten have both been brand new rolls of 2011Ds. Phooey. I guess I need to ask the banks to check the boxes for me before I walk out with them.
However, I did get a 1953S from my bullion dealer in change yesterday, which was a hole for me.

'Tis my personal thread! This is so people can see my progress if they wish to follow. Others post their finds here occasionally, and I don't mind. I like to see other people take an interest in roll searching!

I picked up two rolls of nickels, two rolls of pennies, and a roll of halves from the bank today. I always seem to get the strangest looks when I ask for rolls. Since this is a nickel forum I will post what I thought was worth holding onto.
1941-P 1958-P 1959-P 1960-P 1962-P 1964-P (apparently the infamous 1964, I had no idea) 1967-P
After reading through this thread though, I am not so excited anymore. I'll keep the '41, '57, and '59.

Correction.
The '58, '59, '60, '62, and '64 were Denver minted.

to the Forum Fred, and to roll hunting! Three keepers (pre 1960 for me and others here) in just two rolls is a great average. Keep up the good work and let us know your finds either on this nickel thread or the other. Good luck hunting!!

Picked up a box at the local Wells Fargo and was highly surprised to come across a Buffalo in roll #3. A few rolls later, out pops a 1902 V nickel, my first ever. Finished up the box with one more buffalo near the end. And a single War Nickel to boot! Best box I have ever had. Went back to get another in case I was on a roll and got a skunker instead...still fun.

A box of nickels is $100. I believe (I have never searched one) that a box of pennies is $25. I just call a bank ahead of time to make sure they have a box and that they know I am coming.
