I can't recall any discussions or problems with these coins. Are the Mints really doing that good of a job producing these specialty coins?

I know someone here posted a couple months ago about ordering a proof gold Buffalo. When it arrived, he noticed that it had a rotated reverse- about 7% or so IIRC. Not enough to be considered a major error but still an oddity for a finely produced gold coin.

I have seen strike throughs and stuff like that and many rotated dies but as far as I can think straight (pain meds kicking in pretty good) thats it

In 1999, the West Point mint issued a few 1/10th ounce and quarter ounce gold eagles struck on unburnished proof planchets, resulting in MS coins with the W mintmark that command a significant premium in price.
