Ok, so I want to buy a US Half Cent on the cheap. Here's the trick I want it for, its sort of a bar/party trick where you guide the person to a number, but with a twist! Plus, the math is odd, not obvious Write down a 2 didget number Add the two numbers together that make up your number Subtract your new number from the original With your new number, add the 2 numbers together Divide by 2 Wager (drink, a buck, something friendly like that) I bet you I have in my pocket change that makes up your number Then I pull out 4 and 1/2 cents! The trick is usually done with a penny cut in half, but I think it might be cooler with a real Half Cent. It would be a completely different kind of odd, your know? |

I like this gag. What with all the work you're putting into the setup, why not get a nice coin? You'd make it back in free beers before too long!

ooooo, I like that! The original math trick is pretty well known. But with your version-- saving the wager until after they do the calculation-- they'd probably fall for it, not expecting a Half Cent or divided cent. Gonna try this trick soon, thanks! |

I don't get the trick here. Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong
"Write down a 2 didget number" .....29
"Add the two numbers together that make up your number" ........2+9=11
"Subtract your new number from the original" .........29-11=18
"With your new number, add the 2 numbers together" what 2 numbers? the 1+8 or the 18+29
18+29 = 47 / 2 = 23.5
1+8 = 9/2 = 4.5
edit...okay I get it now.

I think I'm gonna still try and get a beat up one, like the one harrison posted. That way I wouldn't have to worry about it getting more circulated. As long as I can see the basics, the lettering, I'll be happy. I cut a penny in half for now so I can start trying it with that :)

Looks like worn, but relatively problem free Half Cents are going for about 10-15 bucks on ebay. These are coins you can use as pocket pieces. Always a bonus. ;D |

Just make sure the coin isn't so worn that you can't read " Half Cent" on the back. Since most people probably aren't familiar with those coins, you might lose them if the denomination is gone. |
