The Royal Australian Mint is to issue 2 million colourized pad printed Two Dollar coins into general circulation.
A World's first for a colourized coin.

Probably not a bad idea, and good for numismatics in the next generation. It could help generate an interest in coins with kids.
That is how I became to be interested in coins. That experience for me started with finding '51 Jubilee and '54 Royal Visit florins in circulation. I saved all that I could find!

The general public will find a colourized coin a bit unusual and save them, just as I did with the florins.

For this reason, I would expect that two million Two Dollar coins should disappear from circulation rather quickly.
Subtract the cost of production, and that's a profit of about 3 1/2 million dollars for the Mint.

The UNC version has a unlimited mintage, so who know how many will be made.

The 2m of circulation may and I hope do exactly what you suggest.

I also think the 10,000 bags of 5 x $2 will end up being worth more the carded UNC ones.

Sorry forgot to add that as trout1105 said in this one https://goccf.com/t/151141 The Canadians did this in 2006 so not the first for circulation.

2 weeks ago I went to get change for the till at work and came back with a bag of new $2 coins including several (10 from memory) of the commemorative coins. There is three collectors in my workplace. Not very many of the $50 worth of $2 dollar coins went into the till - only the notes and coins used to purchase the $2 coin.
