Hi! I gave this coin a good look in an attempt to spot any varieties or errors mentioned in online resources.

The only one I could find is what appears to be a low mint mark, which I saw referred to as VAM-2 Low S.

Is it low, and if so, is this a common VAM? I ask because some of the 1924-S coins I saw for sale online had mint marks lower than others, but no mention was made of a VAM in the descriptions.

Any other comments about the coin would be very much appreciated!

VAM-4 may be a possibility as well. Any doubling on the obverse?

Dave, thanks for your response. Here's a close-up of the obverse area where the doubling would occur, if there were any. I can't say that I see any signs of doubling here, although I'm a complete newbie and might be missing something.

I saw mention of a 1924-S "VAM-2 low S" on only one website....other sites describe VAM-2 as doubling on the reverse of 1924-S coins (which I do not see on my coin) without mentioning a "low s"

Rest in Peace

I can't tell if yours has a doubled profile or not. There's a few circulation contact marks that may have removed it. I guess it may come down to mint mark location.

This would be the(only)site to reference Morgan and Peace dollar varieties.http://www.vamworld.com/1924-S+VAMs

That's the VAM site I looked at; I didn't want to post its link for fear of violating the rule about posting external links

I don't think it has a double profile, either, but I just noticed something else: It might have VAM 1-M, a beveled cap centered beneath the R on the obverse.

oops, never mind; I mis-read the description of VAM-1M. I don't think this coin has a beveled cap after all.

The beveling I see, which might just be normal wear, is above "B E R T"..
Rest in Peace

Posting links to VAMworld is perfectly acceptable and I believe yours is either a V2 or V4.

Side note - The person who sent the DC VAM-1M is probably the foremost expert on the Peace dollar series and is a member of VAMworld who posts regularly on their message board.

Thanks, Dave!
Now that you mention it, I do see some doubling of WE.
