I cant identify this one..I thought it was a vam-12 when I bid on it but after receiving the first thing I looked for was the double ear but its not.. after looking over the reverse again I saw a blob next to the eagles left leg that I've never seen before. Figured I'd see what you fellers thoughts were..

..however the photo of the left field, looks like a scratch to me...Cuds on coins have a great section on all denominational overlays..

Its definitely not a scratch, I've seen that clash before on other years. I've never seen the clash/cud that is present next to the eagles left leg.

So if they're clash marks does that mean it isn't a VAM?

It's a heavily clashed reverse--the clash marks near the eagle's left leg are from the cotton bolls on the obverse. Similar to this 1886-O reverse:

Not sure of the VAM, it looks like a near date, but the obverse pic isn't too clear.

Cotton bolls! That makes sense now, amazing that in my short time (about 5 years) collecting I've never seen that clash before.

Here is a better picture of the obverse

Looks like a different stage of VAM-12 http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.c...88-P_VAM-12A

See if it matches in hand

I think it's VAM-24A. It shares the same reverse as 12A.
Rest in Peace

The date position does not match 12 so possibly 24.

edit to add - There is only one 24A listed in the SSDC registry with no LFCPs to confirm any pups that are not imaged on the 24A page.

It closely resembles a vam-12a but as Dave mentioned the date is wrong. The world "america" is doubled on the reverse as well as the wreath on the right side of the coin ( from my point of view) it isn't tripled though as the berry doesn't resemble the one pictured.
