1943 Mercury Dime Opinions - Coin Community Forum

The coin has two scratches on the reverse, and I was wondering if this would make this Mercury dime a "details" coin. I'm still trying to learn to what degree a scratch must be to make a coin details. Thank you for your help. Report this Post to the Staff

panzaldi Bedrock of the Community United States 18741 Posts	Posted 05/01/2020 5:45 pm the coin has decent eye appeal and not a lot of marks on the obverse. nice luster throughout. obverse MS65. reverse has a small amount of little ticks particularly under the middle band. I don't think the scratch is significant enough to details the coin but all the little ticks would hold the overall grade down a little. I'm netting it at MS64 as the obverse is pretty nice and I tend to give that a little more weight on a split grade as that's the side that's normally viewed when in an album Report this Post to the Staff
Coinfrog Bedrock of the Community United States 94367 Posts	Posted 05/01/2020 6:16 pm Beautiful coin - I think it would make 65 despite the reverse scratch(es), but it's sort of moot, since the coin isn't worth the cost of grading at that level and it isn't FSB. to the CCF!
