I came across a 1991 Lincoln Cent and was quite surprised to see praying hands on the other side. I have never seen this on a coin before. does anyone have an explanation ?

Just an after-market counterstamp. Some collect them, others consider them a nuisance.

I see remnants of dried glue on the rev. I wonder if this was originally attached to a first communion card or similar.

Reverse appears to have some sort of glue or dried (clear) crud on it. A long soak in 100% acetone might clear that away.
