This 1732 Minas dobra too was wrongly condemned. I see nothing suspicious about it.
These coins had huge variation. In the 1720 decade the shields in the reverse were changed often. Old dies could be reused in later years. Odd mistakes like mules of one sovereign obverse and anothers shield in the reverse are known. Very rare but known.
There are fakes of peças. Some were contemporary, done by the british to to deceive whomever they could deceive. Mostly in their colonies where they were detected as low wright and got stamped. But a while ago I found one unstamped here in Portugal, survived undetected these centuries.
Dobras, the 8 escudos discussed here, I have seen no contemporary fakes.
There are also modern fakes of peças. Very dangerous. Talked to be of lebanese origin to deceive collectors. Can easily fool one. But dobras, I have never seen a modern fake yet.
