Its a clash, its just the flat field of the scanner does a poor job with minor things like clashes. Under magnification and bare eye it is very much visible. I found a 1964 hanging 4 last night and after a few times with the scanner I gave up lol.
It it is funny about the sore eye thing, as I just check the coins quickly. I have an above average 'talent' in pattern recognition and that really helps in this hobby for me anyway.
