I was hoping everyone could give me their opinion. And yes, those black marks are pitmarks on the coin.

EF, possibly AU details. Possible cleaning.

I'll have to say VF-20 because the top diagonal band is worn kind of smooth while the bottom one seems better defined. The hair around the ear also shows a bit of wear which I believe is one of the high points of the obverse. Although, the obverse is what really made me decide for the VF-20 grade.

No VF Mercury dime shows the sticks in the fasces so clearly defined. I'd call it XF-40 minimum, probably more like XF-45.

I agree with XF-40 with the clearer obverse cleaning, that's what would keep me from grading higher.

The reverse is really detailed, I agree. I still think it's VF-20 because of the obverse. I don't think cleaning will improve this coin much (nor would I clean it). But don't get me wrong, it's a nice coin and one of my favorite designs. It could even be a split grade for both side, but I ain't sure about how to average those out.

I don't think it's a split grade... The obverse is XF details also, though it looks like it has been cleaned.
Rest in Peace

Yeah, VF details coins are usually considerably weaker. Big difference between VF-35 and VF-20 too.

Yeah, I agree those diagonal bands are very strong. XF45 details. If it had not been cleaned maybe AU with a light strike.
