what is the difference between type 1 and type 2 1979 s Roosevelt dimes?

The difference is in the clarity of the S mintmark.

On the type 1 coins (I believe), the S is filled and relatively blob-like.
On the type 2 coins, the mintmark is newer so the S is clear.
