I'm too lazy to make an entire list right now but.... I'm shocked to see the Flying Eagle cent on this list. It's one of my favs. Not sure the presidential dolloar series deserves to be number 1 either. The special olympics commem was a disgrace for sure. I actually really dislike Franklin halves. Just never liked em.

I am not really a fan of the Eisenhower dollar. It must rank down there with the British coinage uncrowned head image of Edward V11, for the same reasons. Fairly accurate imagery of of the President or King involved, just not numismatically attractive.

I think you made a mistake with #5.

I would disagree that the Ike dollar is a bad design. You might now like the man on the front but I do think two reverses used on the coin are very good. Apollo 11 Mission Insignia and the Liberty Bell with the Moon. How could either of those be considered as bad designs? I would put the reverse of the 1976 Quarter or some of State/Park quarters on the list before reverse of the Ike dollar.

I actually like Eisenhower as a person and the Flying Eagle cent as a coin. I listed it only because of its very short tenure and its spartan- almost naturalistic design. I also agree that the Jefferson nickel is a fairly ugly coin from mint state to well worn and beat up. I don't know how I didn't consider that- and yes, there are some really ugly State Quarter reverses... like I said, just a fun exercise.

I much prefer the seated liberty set to the Barber type coins.

I think the flying eagle is only medium-ugly, but it also had a lot of manufacturing problems. Likewise, I think the SBA is only moderately poor artistically, but the biggest problem was that it looked and felt like a quarter. Same with the IKE, which has the same problem as earlier dollars with being an impractical size. The obverse design is also kinda goofy looking on such a large coin. I don't know what the OP has against seateds, I think they're some of the nicest 19th century designs, most of which I don't care for. Barber coinage is particularly ugly. Looks like a dude with gas expressing mild surprise. There are a whole host of commemoratives that are either uninspired or ugly, but that Special Olympics one does take the cake. The State Quarters are all over the place, maybe there's 5-10 that are attractive. I think I vote for Idaho as the worst. It's a stoned pigeon being held at gunpoint. The fusable alloy cent is the absolute winner in my book: Quote: 3: any of the "Small Eagle" gold and silver coinage Which do you mean? Like classic gold coins or modern? Liberty head? Indian head? I agree about the Liberty head design, but the 20th century designs are amazing.

I will have to think about this one and get back later, but I would be curious to know what are your top five favorite State Quarter reverses.

Quote: Just for fun, this is my list of the 10 worst US coin series/ designs. What's everybody's list?
7. Eisenhower Dollar Quote:I am not really a fan of the Eisenhower dollar. If I were an evil moderator, I would ultimate-mega-perma-ban you both for those comments! (Just kidding) I have said before, I cannot really pick a worst, let alone a list of ten worst. But I can say that the 1995 Special Olympics Commemorative obverse is disturbing.
