Here's one of coins jw sent me, a Constantine II Caesar Vot V Siscia. I really wanted to get that white stuff off the surface (because I could see that it had really great detail underneath).  So I put it in olive oil last night. Figured it was only going to take a couple days, three at the most, and on the second or third day I would go out and get Renaissance Wax to preserve it. Shortly after arriving home, I decide to check up on it. Already, no more white stuff, surfaces smooth and near-pristine. I was surprised! I don't even need to lightly brush it! Problem is, I have quite a bit of stuff to do later and can't exactly go out and get Ren Wax at the moment, and I'm worried that leaving it in the olive oil another day will adversely affect the coin. What should I do at this point? Thanks. BTW if I sound noobish I apologize. This is my first ancient coin cleaning. Edited by VisigothKing

If it looks good and needs no further cleaning, take it out of the olive oil. It'll be fine w/o the ren wax, especially for a few days time.

You posted somewhere that to help dry cleaned coins, to dip it in alcohol. Should I do that also?

Yes, the rubbing alcohol will dry the coin. Just dip it in for a few seconds, take it out and let it dry. Should be good to go.

HEY, if I knew it was going to look that good...... Only kidding. I knew it had good detail. Looks really nice. Quite a difference with a little TLC.

The coin looks nice as is. It will keep a few more days withoit the Ren, Just make sure it is in a nice dry place.

I keep a desiccant close to my coins until I can finish them properly. This will keep all the moisture away and even draw out any residual moisture from the coin. You can find them in many different products. Those little white bags that say do not eat.

Went to a few places to look for Ren Wax but didn't find it. Before I order some, are there any more readily available alternatives to it? And is wax 100% necessary for preserving a cleaned ancient?

I don't know of alternatives, but its not absolutely required to put wax on any coin. In fact, I've read some threads where collectors despise wax on coins. I do believe its a personal call.
