Nothing to be sorry about Ray. You are a plethora of good advice.

Here are a couple 75mm f3.5 EL-Cheapos that someone needs to snap up. Both are described as essentially new, so should be low risk. Plus both are FREE shipping and offered at a very low price. If for nothing else, these would make great loupes. If no one buys them before the end I'll probably snag them myself...

Was perusing the 75 mm lens shootout Ray did a while back. Seemed like the Vivitar was down on the list as far as performance was concerned so I passed on it and went for the El-Omegar. Then it occurred to me that these lenses may have certain applications niches that they possess. What areas/applications do the Vivitar & El-Omegar excel in that other lenses in that list may not?

The Vivitar is the smallest of all the lenses in the list, so has the advantage of easiest lighting (which is 90%+ of a good photograph). It also needs a slightly longer extension than most others, so gives lower magnification at minimum extension. The EL-Omegar is also pretty small, and both might be mountable "inside" the bellows in reverse for special applications.

That El-Omegar is my current "usual" lens; it ain't half bad. And keep in mind, pretty much everything in Ray's shootout was excellent with full-face imaging. The distinctions only started showing at 100% crops.

The EL-Omegar is actually quite good at 100%. Note that both the Vivitar and EL-Omegar are f3.5 lenses, even a bit bigger than the Nikon 75mm or 75ARD1, both of which are f4. This gives just a bit more room to stop down. I generally look for lenses with bigger apertures for this reason. The bigger aperture itself doesn't help much unless you're operating at higher magnifications, but it means bigger glass with more opportunity for the central portions to be well-corrected.

Heads Up. El-Nikkor 75mm 1:4 I already have mine, so I won't be bidding.

Might want to check their shipping & handling charges before you bid. My shipping & handling charges from GoodWill was $18.47.

Here's another Vivitar Triple Track Bellows for an incredible price. This is another one that I will buy if no one else does...

The El-Omegar I picked up (noted above) had a little bit of haze in the lens but it still takes nice pics.

Last year I was really tempted to get a raynox clip on close up lens particularly the Raynox MSN 505. As I developed my macro set up I decided that the Raynox was just too expensive. Over the last few weeks I have been putting together the gear to use Microscope objectives. All I have been waiting for is a M42 to Minolta MD Adapter( I have everything else). So then what comes into play: Murphy's law! Checking ebay locally yesterday I saw a Raynox MSN 505 and clip on adapter for sale......I got it! I think it was a steal! But I can't confirm that until I have received it: Heres the now expired listing...I still can't believe that I got it at the price I did!

Wow. Great deal. That's a fascinating little piece of kit; wonder what it'd do taped to a smartphone.

I've a new phone, and preliminary results for coin imaging are pretty promising. Won't mention details until I'm sure one way or the other, at which point I'll post a thread.
