All right, I've been trying to come up with a better, less confusing way to showcase my 7070 album and, thanks to the magic of Photoshop, I came up with this:

My 7070 Album

Now, not only is the reverse of each coin shown directly below the obverse, it's also not rotated (which hopefully makes it easier to make out the design clearly).

Of course, now that I've done this, I finally noticed just how poor my current "Coronet" Large Cent (1816-39) really is. That was actually a coin I already had in my collection when I started putting together the 7070 album and I completely forgot about it when I went to the coin show a few weeks ago looking to upgrade my coins. I'm not looking to spend big bucks right now, what with the holidays coming up and everything, but I think I should be able to at least find one with a visible date, for Pete's sake...

We should do some virtual 7070's using CCF members pictures. Could put together best MS set, best toned set, best circulated set, best lowball set (i.e. poor/fair), etc... Just an idea.

Great set! Perhaps when I finish the 3 or 4 incomplete sets I'm currently working on I will start the long 7070 journey.

Great set, I can see you wanting to upgrade some coins, but being a circulated coin fan it looks just fine to me. Love these sets, its the Gold at the end that does it. Maybe I'll own a gold coin someday !

I'm actually surprised the gold page doesn't include holes for the modern American Eagle Gold coins. Not that I can afford to buy one of each size right now, but still...

Well done!

I do like how the obverse and reverse are together.

Nice set! Did you place the [Proof] markers on your pages, or is this an updated version of the 7070?

As noted at the top of the page:

Please note that I have done a little cutting and pasting within Photoshop so that the reverse of every coin is displayed immediately beneath the obverse, instead of on a separate page. Also, text within brackets was added by me and does not appear on the album itself.

Actually, in order to get everything to line up correctly, I replaced every single bit of text in every picture...

All right, I'm still making minor upgrades, both to the coins themselves as well as to my presentation of them:

My 7070 Album

I recently picked up better examples of the following:
  • A Steel Wheat Cent (I'm pretty sure mine had been either re-plated or chromed)

  • A proof Lincoln Memorial Cent (my old one had a nice fat fingerprint on it due to my own carelessness.

  • A proof clad Washington Quarter (my old one was pulled from pocket change and I decided to replace it with a nice proof example).

  • A halfway decent "Coronet" Large Cent (my old one was almost unrecognizable and I forgot about upgrading it when I went to the coin show last month).

[None of these cost much to replace -- the Large Cent was $25 and the rest were all about $1 apiece -- but they needed to be upgraded.]

In addition to the new coins, I did the following with my presentation:
  • I rephotographed a number of the coins and then digitally inserted them back into the album. This allowed me to adjust the lighting and color for each coin individually to better effect. I've only done this with a small fraction of the coins, but will probably do more as time permits.

  • I digitally added an entirely new hole in the half dollar section for my "Liberty Seated 1853 with Arrows & Rays." I recently updated the coin in the standard "Liberty Seated 1853-55 Arrows" hole and didn't realize until later that I had replaced a version that had rays with one that didn't have them (in fact, I didn't even realize there were two separate types for that year). The original coin is very worn, but the rays are very visible and I think it warrants its own hole. And now I definitely need to find a better example!

All right, I don't know if anybody is still reading this thread (or even interested in it), but while I was at it I also decided to replace my Bullion Silver American Eagle with a Proof version and added a new digital hole for the 2011 SAE Reverse Proof that came with the 25th Anniversary Set. Obviously, the Reverse Proof isn't actually in the album itself, but I still thought it would be nice to diplay it along with everything else.

Nice set! The pics are great. Some of the clearest I've seen.

Thanks! As I said, photographing each coin outside of the album and then digitally re-inserting it makes a huge difference.
