Went to the local coin store today by my college campus and was going to get some silver for a little under melt. I believe that the coin shop was selling it for 23x face. I thought this was a decent deal. He said it was at about 24x face right now. So I was like, well might as well start a set of something if I am going to buy silver. So I was looking around the the Walking Liberty halves really seemed to catch my eye. He had quite a few of them in probably VG/Fine selling for 1 dollar over spot so roughly about 12.50-13 a piece. I thought this was a pretty good deal, but I decieded to hold off, until I researched more into them and knew kind of how to grade them myself..do you guys think that he was giving me a pretty good deal and I am on the right track? *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***

To be honest dude, I think you can get them for spot/under spot. Even though my coin dealer is basically a rip off, I've heard many good stories about dudes getting cheaper prices than that. I'll wait til others chime in

Thanks for the input bro, I'm definitely going to be looking around for the best deal and hopefully some of my friends on here can hook me up with good prices.

I dunno that price is actually pretty good. Remember no shipping charges either.

IMHO, this is a very fair price, considering spot; this, from a dealer who has store overhead, too! You can wait for silver to go down ... or, up. As the feds start to print more dollars, look for inflation and an accompanying increase in precious metals.

I'd agree with, Exo, the guy has to make a profit. So, I believe the price you were offered was very fair. I'm not a huge fan of speculation though, and I tend to stick to coins that have true numismatic value and won't fluctuate too much with the whims of the bullion market.

you can screw around worrying about if a dollar over spot is a ok deal and in the meanwhile the price of silver goes up every day. just get as many as you can now. enjoy them as coins now and later on when the price of silver far exceeds the collectable value you will have had your cake and frosting too. they are called junk because they are too low a grade to have much value as a coin but that doesn't mean an album of really worn out barbers or walkers isn't a really cool thing to enjoy.

Considering a customer told me he was quoted a $13 per coin buy price by one of the chain jewelers for 64 Kennedy's, less than that for WL is a steal. Of course, I bet they told him 13 times .

Like others have said, which the world market conditions, world economy in the crapper and the US government getting ready to crack up the money making machine ( which will weaken the value of a dollar) any reasonable amount over melt is a good grab. It does rise/fall almost daily but it should start to trend higher and higher as time goes on.
I was asking a local pawn shop 2 weeks ago if they had any silver for sale. He offered me some 64 kennedy's for 25X face value. I wouldn't mind being able to snag some walkers for that.
Just my 2 cents worth.
