It's an absolutely amazing set. One of the best I have ever seen. Only two things stood out to me in the negative. Your War Nickel needs an upgrade and would really only cost $10 to do so. I didn't really like the use of 3 modern commems in the commem section. It's a personal preference, but I've always felt those slots were for the classic silver halves. Would have loved to see the oregon trail , stn. mtn., and texas in those three slots next to the expedition.

Thanks for the kind words. I never really thought about the commemorative halves needing to be "classic" -- I just picked out the ones I liked the best visually. As for the nickel, it actually holds a special place in my heart only because I pulled it out of circulation years ago and kept it in a box of "special" coins for many years simply because it was old. I had no idea it was silver or a " War Nickel" until I got back into collecting earlier this year, and when I heard about War Nickels I was so excited to go through my stuff and discover that I had one! But yeah, it could probably stand to be upgraded as well...

Super nice 7070! You've got some nice looking coins in there. Your 1826 Half Cent, 1810 Classic Head Large Cent and 1875 Seated Half are not only the same dates as the ones in my 7070, they even have the same look. I did a double take when I first looked at your pictures. Love that you have the full gold page as well. That's quite a set is all I can say - great accomplishment!

Yeah, with the money I spent on the gold coins I probably could have upgraded pretty much all the other coins in the album to AU. When gold prices briefly dipped back down to below $1600 back at the end of September, however, my wife suggested that we invest in a small amount of gold, and that gave me the opportunity to "invest" in these gold coins for my album. I'm kind of hoping gold never goes through the roof, since I'd hate to have to sell these to make my wife happy...

barryg, Very nice set. I noticed under your commem. halves that is says silver and clad, is that something you added or was it already there? I don't recall seeing another with that on it. If you did it your self the fonts fit in rather well.

If you did it your self the fonts fit in rather well. I added it myself. I actually made the mistake of adding it in pen to the actual pages (a mistake because my handwriting is atrocious). When I took the pictures, I used Photoshop to edit out the handwritten words and add the printed letters. The font is just bog-standard Arial, btw. But I'm glad you like it!

That is an awesome set Barry! It was one of the best feelings when I finally got mine finished. I especially like your gold page and you have very nice $1 gold pieces. I hear you on the the reasoning. I put mine together when gold was around $900 an ounce and rising, and used the same reasoning with my wife to convince her to let me buy gold. It is killing 2 birds with one stone as you have an investment level of PMs and also have a beautiful type set to show for it.
If you want a challenge, go a little bit further and buy another gold page to differentiate between "Motto" and "No Motto" types and classic heads. You can still find all those relatively close to melt down to the classic head level. I went on a gold frenzy for a while when my budget allowed and have a 3 page 7070 devoted to gold, the last page with modern proof gold. :-)
Anyways, that is an absolutely AWESOME type set, and I'm glad you chose to do the gold page as most leave that one out. Be proud!
