And the upgrade continues...
I decided to swap the
Morgan dollar and
Peace dollar in the album for some better examples I had from AU/BU rolls. I thought of putting in one of my beloved Proof-like
Morgan dollars, but I really don't want to risk anything happening to it. I also swapped the standard
Eisenhower dollar and
Kennedy half dollar with a nicer examples that I had laying around.
I've also continued with the rephotographing effort. Today I did all the gold coins and I think they look much nicer now. Definitely a lot clearer! I also reshot the Walking Liberty through
Kennedy half dollars, the
Trade dollar and the Liberty Head ("Barber") Quarter.
As I take the high-resolution photos, it really lets me see which coins need to be replaced at some point. The reason I swapped out the
Eisenhower dollar and
Kennedy half dollar, for example, was because I noticed a lot of milk spots and fingerprints in the photo that I didn't see with my naked eye. It can be a bit frustrating to discover that coins you thought were nearly perfect aren't even close, but in the end it will be worth it.
Somebody early on mentioned that it might be better to use older Commemorative Half Dollars instead of modern ones. At first, I didn't think it made a difference, but as I've done a little research into the early commemoratives I think I now agree. I had no many there were so many out there! Unfortunately, the ones I have my eyes on are a bit on the expensive side (I'm talking about you, Pilgrim!) I guess I can put those on my future "to buy" list, along with an updated
Barber quarter, an updated 1853 Liberty
Seated dollar with Arrows & Rays, an updated 20-cent piece, etc., etc., etc. If nothing else, it gives me some things to look for at the next coin show I hit...
