Here's a west coast report on the 2011 magnetic cent. I've gone through 1,800 pennies this weekend and found 80 2011's, 20 of those were magnetic so my odds are 1 in 4.

NickelGuy,your set should contain a magnetic cent,I'll send you both types of 2011 Went back to the store with a magnet and got 7 more magnetics, I found an 1871 OBV1 25cent on ebay today,but the magnetic cents somehow felt more gratifying |

Went to the local CIBC to get a bpx of cents to search. The first box the teller brought out was sealed with RCM tape so I got it and another box of mixed cents. The mint box is 50 rolls of 2011 magnetic. All 2011 magnetic cents I find now are going back into circulation. |

From the beginning of the year to almost June, all of the pennies were non-magnetic. By the end of July the magnetics were introduced in a big way. I'm guessing that the split will be about 60/40 in favour of the non-magnetics. I believe the split for the 2009's was 90/10 in favour of the non-mags. Maybe I'm wrong on both counts...

Has anyone noticed that one is thinner than the other, and the colors are a bit off?

Breaking News, Breaking News:
I have never thought that there was going to be rolls of magnetic pennies in the west, even in RBC. (I searched through rolls and went to RBC for pennies) So, today, I went to Costco, the cashier opened a roll of brand new pennies, and gave me a 2011 magnetic penny from that came from that roll.

Hey DBM!  Could you Please keep me on your mind/list when the 2012 one cent coins hit the stores in next few month ?  I too collect Canada one cent coins here in USA and waiting to fill the next folder hole with a 2012  Thanks! Edited by Penny4Me

Does anyone know when the RCM will be publishing its Annual Report for 2011? Then, we should know how „rare" (or not) the 1 Cent „magnetic" version actually is. |
