Roughly in May 2012 the AR will be out.

You can find all ARs dating back to around 2000 on the RCM website. I download and save a copy every year as soon as I can.

It's seldom the AR reveals anything we don't already know as collectors, but sometimes the mintages can be interesting.

By the way, I now firmly believe both versions of the 2011 cent are common. I bet each type will be at least 25% of the total year's mintage.

Thanks for the information regarding the release date of the AR.

@Petersun: The AR are "buried" on the RCM's website. The mintage figures are "buried" even deeper into the reports.

Here is the link:

Thank you for the link for the free report which I find is really helpful. But I don't think that the 2010 report says any mintages for the magnetic cent (2010). But anyway, thanks for this big piece of useful information.

I don't think the 2010 cent magnetic version circulated. Most (all?) PL sets had the magnetic cent. So there's your approximate mintage.

I did take a look at the Royal Canadian Mint reports. It appears to me that the mint is minting too much pennies. Pennies today are almost always used for taxes. There are quadrillions of omega zillions pennies still left in circulation, and the mint should start to catch up on loonies and toonies. Too much collector's coins and bullions.

Interesting thread.

In what years are there both magnetic and non-magnetic cents?

Will both continue to be minted into the future?

Are the other denominations in Canada both mag and non-mag?

Thanks.

2006,2007,2009 through 2011 all have zinc and magnetic cents although in 2007 only in uncirculated sets can you find the 2007 zinc blank. I believe.

Check "the future of the penny" on the Royal Canadian Mint web.

I don't think that Canada will have any more magnetic blanks for cents in 2012.

Considering we don't have a penny coin, I find the title a little stupid.

Direct link and thanks for the heads up

While picking up a case of 1 cent coins to search from a Scotia bank in Dauphin, MB I received a 2011 magnetic mint box $25 in 1 cents. When I looked online and saw people referring to them as "rare" I decided to hang on to them and search a few rolls for errors. In the first roll I found roughly 15 coins with little spikes on the C and A of Canada which makes me wonder if these are common or actually uncommon for 2011 Magnetic cents?
