Quote: I still am waiting on the last of 2011 holding out for a possible lower price. Assuming theres no silver spike that could be coming soon. Dont they go off of the average price over the last week or two? Im kind of surprised theyre still above 200

I mentioned before I had mixed emotions on the fact that the Mint is releasing the 2012-P pucks. I really really do like the detailed art on the 2012 pieces so I'm going to be thrilled to have these next 5 in my collection, once I get them. However, like last year, it's going to be a huge wallet silver suck as they dump the Ag Proof set, the ASE set, and 5 pucks (presumably) before the end of the year. Sheesh....a guy's gotta go on vacation sometime, right? And durn it, these pucks aren't exactly an investment. Oh lottery win, where art thou?

I have to agree with Knot. Between the SF sets, the rest of the ASE's and the 5 ATB's I'm not going to have much money left for ammo. Plus there's a few silver bars I really want to add to the vault.. Last check price was 27.90 woo-h00!

Celtic my biggest complaint isn't so much the over all price (although the premium on the pucks is to high imo) but just the horrendous timing of the releases. In what a 10 day period we get the silver proof set, the puck, and the 25th ASE set. Granted you could probably wait on any one of these and space them out, but who wants to wait Landude not coin related but I know some sites that have really good ammo deals depending on what you are looking for

yeah, my point exactly, basebal21. I won't wait either; I'll grab 'em as they release. Last year "sucked" with 10 puck releases + the 25th ASE + ASEs + in about 10 months. It was like having a car payment. Don't get me wrong; I'm happy to have all that silver in my collection, and if I had to liquidate, I could get 75% or so of my investment back, but looking at the dollar tally... phew! By far my most expensive year buying from the U.S. Mint to date. Maybe I need to color up and get some more gold. :)

Celtic I missed out on the 2010 pucks, but 10 pucks in one year are way to many. They really did set up the 2011 ones for failure with how they released them. Between already having the other pucks released and the ASE set/ASEs its really not surprising most people said no. Then throw in the highest silver prices in decades and it was a perfect storm for them to not sell. Ideally I would love to see the pucks released every 2 months starting at the first of the year. Then have the higher value releases like commems and ASEs, silver proof set ect released in the months the pucks arent. Spread out the silver as the normal coins will do fine no matter when theyre released

Yeah - 1 every other month at sub-$200 levels is acceptable. :)

That would make far to much sense for a government organization

I still have to pick up the Chickasaw 5oz from the mint, but I'm waiting for the price to drop to more reasonable levels. I don't want to wait to long and miss out on this coin either. However, of all the ATB coins that have been issued I do feel the El Yunque is the most beautiful. I can't wait to see it in the 5 ounce size. All of this series is truly outsanding but El Yunque I feel the best example so far. But I really would like to see the cost come down.

Teach, None of these 5oz releases have sold out in a day. The first two, Hot Springs and Yellowstone, sold over 24,000 in the first 5-7 days of sales., and eventually sold out in 15 days. Yosemite almost matched this, but the slow down began with the 4th release, Grand Canyon, it took at least 40 days before it reached the 25,000 mark, and even slower for the 5th release, 3 months for Mount Hood. As for the 2011-Ps, they each opened their sales between 7,800 and 10,600, and none of them are even close to the 25,000 mark. So if you waited a week, you probably can still buy a coin. There's probably at least 8,000 collectors that will buy regardless of the design, which is probably a safe core number of active collectors of this series. The pucks may eventually take off, that time isn't now.
Thanks for the reply Bizy, sounds like I shouldn't have any issues with acquiring a couple upon my return.

By the way, how do put a quote from someone else into your reply, I don't see how to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You have to use the reply to topic link above the thread that gives you the more advanced forum options and there is a button there to do it.

Yeah, but you still need to manually copy the text you want to quote and then paste it into your message. All the little "quote" button does is create the beginning and ending tags that surround the quoted text and cause it to be displayed in a little gray box. You can also create the quote box manually typing [ QUOTE ] and [ /QUOTE ] (without the extra spaces) around the text you want to quote. For example, if you type in [ quote ]this is the text I want to quote[ /QUOTE ] (again, without the extra spaces), it will look like this: Quote: this is the text I want to quote

If anyone is interested, Provident Metals finally listed the El Yunque bullion coin this morning, as usual they are about $6.75 less per coin than APMEX, but delayed until May 30th, some of the 2011s got restocked as well. Plus their shipping fees are much lower than APMEX, particularly for under $500 orders. The Mint News blog is reporting that each of the 2012 bullion releases will be minted to demand, so the bullion coins could see a lower mintage than the equivalent Mint release, but probably unlikely. Worth keeping an eye out on the sales reports especially near the end of the year when the Mint is legally required to stop selling the current year's dated bullion after December 31st. Edit- Quote: ...but 10 pucks in one year are way too many.
10 pucks in a little over 10 months. Wouldn't be surprised if collectors simply dropped off from sheer wallet fatigue. Add that to the fact there were at least two major sales suspensions and subsequent price adjustments from $280 to $230 and finally to $205. That probably alienated and angered another subset of collectors. It's not hard to see why these coins are shunned, poor to non-existent Mint marketing, the downward momentum of Ag during the release period, the glut of 2011 coins, a veritable primer of how to do everything wrong in selling and marketing a coin to a skeptical public. That would make too much sense for a government agency like the US Mint. Typically all of the high value coins like gold and platinum are bunched together near the beginning of the year. It's a small blessing that the collector pucks are sold individually as is, they could have been sold in yearly sets, further eroding interest and affordability.
