Options For Scrap Sterling Jewelry?

mmerc20 Valued Member United States 372 Posts	Posted 12/07/2011 9:21 pm I have a friend who has a hoard of old sterling scrap from jewelry making (perhaps 6 pounds worth?). He doesn't necessarily want to sell it, but it is an option. I was trying to answer a few questions for him and thought I would turn here for assistance. 1) What is a normal buy price for scrap sterling per gram? 2) Is there a place you can send sterling to have it melted into a assay type piece? 3) Is there a place to send the sterling in trade for bullion? I can't imagine working in that trade without them. The scraps can be repurposed quite easily depending on the smith's skill level. They can be redesigned or cast.
