I like to post new discussion topics. How about this one...
When was the last time you had that "I've got to have it" feeling about a coin? What coin was it?
As for me, it was recently when I bought an early Victorian British coin weight. It's dated Mar 16, 1847 and is in incredible condition. I've collected British coins for years and I have never seen another one like it. It's an amazing piece and I just had to have it!
And you?

Happens to me a couple times a week. Usually a Morgan, and normally one with "1921" stamped on it.

I had that "gotta have it" feeling.
The coin? An Adelaide Pound!
And I ended up buying one for myself for my 21st birthday! I sold it 9 years later, along with some other high end coins, the funds from which ended up being the 20% deposit on my first house. That was 35 years ago.
I started working for my father part time in a factory from age 12, and he let me keep every penny that I earned.

ROL@acloco. I feel ya, brother. There's actually a Lincoln in my sights as we speak; it's gonna cost me north of $100 to get it under my lens. And worth every penny (to coin a phrase) if it's a grade lower than the seller - perhaps the most trustworthy Lincoln guy in the country - considers it.

Yep, happens to me at least a couple times a week, usually in view of some big chunk of pre-19th century darkside silver like this one> I really need to slow down the search because it is too addictive.

yuuuuup => Dominion of Canada Bank notes (1870 through 1925) ... I only have a few outstanding bills to obtain and then that category will be completed => so, if I ever see one of the few outstanding bills being auctioned-off, I get "that feeling" ... it's an awesme feeling if I know that I have the cash to spend ... but it's a dirty, desperate feeling if I know that I won't be able to win the prize! => oh, and yes => Friday afternoon beer as well!

SupDave - I truly find it extremely hard to pass on a nice, original, problem free coin in MS condition.
I admire Buff Nickels and SLQ's, but have never collected them because they are extremely hard to grade.
Whatever that Lincoln is, if you get tired of it, send it my way. :)

My St Gaudens double eagle - it was my dream coin since I started collecting at 12 and I thought it would take me well into my adult years to get one. However, earlier this year I managed to save the money so I went to the Noble Auctions in Sydney. After seeing 3 at the viewing (this was the first time I saw them in real life - and they far exceeded my expectations) the first thing I said to my mate who came with me was "I have to have one" At the auction I managed to pick up the best one for a bargain price.
