I have come across this New Zealand 1967 20 cents . Could anyone put some light on how the extra bit of metal on the top came to be ? is it an error ?

Larena: a bit much to ask, but is it possible to photograph the coin edge on?

With the picture presented, there does not appear to be any flattening on the adjacent rim. It's just a bit too hard for me to call it PMD or not at this stage. Is that area inside the rim on the reverse raised or lowered?

The bit extending out seems to be lower than the rim on both sides.

If it is not Post Mint Damage, I have not seen an error like this one before.

Perhaps some others may have differing opinions to mine.

Looks like someone soldered something on there, then broke it off later. It doesn't look like a mint error to me.

My educated guess is PMD, prolly an attempt to make it into jewelry. Can't think of any way for it to be of mint origin.

Tried to get good pic of outside edge ,,,not successfully YET ! The original rim is still in place and perhaps this is soldered on, but wouldn't that upset the rim ?
