Can anyone tell me what I have here, apart from the fact that it is a NZ 1967 20 cent piece? Is this an error or PMD?

larena: it it possible that you could photograph the coin edge on? Is that crescent like mark inside the rim on the reverse indented or raised? I have never seem PMD or an error like that. Mu guess is that it is an error, along the lines that erkle has suggested.

As you can see, the rim is still in place on both sides. I would think if it was welded on, there would be some interruption to the rim?

On looking closely at the outside edge (thickness) it looks as though the machining was done later than the piece was added, though the machining is only light on the widest point

My guess is that it has been soldered on with the intention of making a pendant.
It looks like some of the remaining solder can be seen inside the rim on both sides and the fact that it is at the top of the coin seems to support this.

and the machining on the outside showing as well? if it was solder , the rim would be covered, wouldn't it?

I recently made 3 sixpence pendants to hang off a bracelet by soldering on some silver wire to them and there was no way in heck I could have done it without getting solder covering the rim. I don't think its solder but I may be wrong.

This coin is already being discussed here.
We prefer it if you only post once, rather than make multiple posts in different subforums. If you post something and we think it should be moved somewhere else more relevant, we can move it.
