I don't have much interest or experience in errors and as such need some help with this one. I found it today whilst noodling 1c & 2c coins. What makes me think it may be part of the minting process is the fact that the 'slice'(for lack of a better word) is lustrous when looking at the side of the coin. Couldnt get a decent photo looking at the side of the coin sorry. So PMD or error?

These are quite rare?
Do they have much of a value?

looks super, writing near the cut edge looks soft, nice condition, I have no idea of value but I'm thinking $75 minimum up to maybe $350

Not rare except in cases of larger clips. Occurs when blanks are struck at the end of a strip. Somewhat scarcer than circular clips, which can happen at any point if the strip doesn't advance far enuf.
So yes, a mint error, specifically a planchet error.
$5-10 would be a realistic retail.

See the lettering that's involved in the clip. The bottom ends of the letters are fishtailed indicating it is a real clip. Don't see the Blakesley effect though but all coins won't show this, it's just another potential indictator. http://www.australian-threepence.co...n-error.htmlMaybe $40-$50 value as it looks unc.

I'm with purple penny, if this was a 50c I would pay $40-$50, maybe $60 tops if it looks as good first hand as it does in the pics... This shows a small Blakesley effect in my humble opinion with the opposite rim thinning somewhat (unless it is a trick of the light), which you don't tend to see on the 50c clipped coins. not that rare, these do come up for sale regularly.

I agree with the opinions so far. Just one question, is it a 1c or 2c?
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

It is a 1c coin.
Its a pretty nice looking coin.
Erkle you had me excited at $350. <$50 seems to be the consensus. I can see the fishtailing and weaker strike around the clip but not the rim thinning.
The Australianthreepence site is fantastic! It mentions the rim will only show thinning if the rim is formed at the planchet stage. Is the rim of the 1c coin formed at planchet stage or as part of the striking?
Im afraid this coin may have sparked something inside me. Maybe errors can be intersting.

Very nice coin but it's not worth a great deal, maybe $40/$50 because it is UNC,but you never know,if you put it on ebay you may get more you may get less it depends a lot on who is bhidding on the day. If it were mine I would be keeping it as value can only go up if you keep the coin in that condition.

This is PMD . I jut made this one Dead easy when you have a decent Katana Just let it rest for a while and re patna and bobs your uncle a "RARE COIN" . I might email the bloke selling the dodgy $1 coin and give him a discount by the dozen . Seriously tho anyone with access to a decent sharp edge can create these

Appleangel I found this yesterday whilst sorting through my 1c & 2c coins. I've already pulled out all the 1968 but was looking for the 67 with the missing SD initials. I came across this. I've collected about 19kg of 1&2c coins from different banks around adelaide.
