I have one of those corner desks that is about 3 foot each way and even though I would love to tell you it was cluttered with coins, its not. Its cluttered with everything else. The coins usually stay in boxes or tubes. I do have a few Morgans laying here and there but the majority of my desk clutter is papers and other things that I use pretty regularly

I have an "L shaped" desk that houses my computer, TV, etc. My work space is limited so I can only put out what I am currently working on. Right now, I am waiting on more supplies to come in so I can take all my coins out of the albums and put them in 2x2s. Then those go in long boxes where they will be sorted and can be easily handled. The tote you see with all the 2x2s are foreign and US coins - got lots more to do besides those albums, but can only take out a little at a time because of space.

I'm so easily-distracted that I need to enforce strict desk discipline; otherwise I'd never get anything done. Only the things I'm working on at the moment stay on my desk. Left to right: Um, my computer. Floors are where the dust is, and I won't leave a computer on the floor. Next, the 26" Asus I browse with, and next to it the 24" Dell U2410 color-calibrated IPS panel I use for imaging operations. Each of the coins gathered next to the Dell - 4 Morgans and 4 Lincolns - have appeared at CCF in the last few weeks, and I'm in the process of microimaging them. To the right is Santoku, my photography rig. It's currently mounting my Canon 550D and the 75mm APO-Rodagon D which is my standard imaging lens. On the stage is the latest in my series of Gem Brown Lincolns, a coin you'll be seeing here later today for opinion. Behind Santoku on the shelf are the various accessories used with it, and to Santoku's right is the Leica Monozoom 7 I use for microimaging. Rmpsrpms' brilliant design for Santoku means I only need one apparatus for all of my photography needs.

WOW SuperDave.......I am impressed. And jealous! You can really take good pics and then see those coins enlarged to appreciate them more. You have a great set up there.
Too bad I was born beautiful instead of rich. I would copy off of you.

It feels good to see desks like mine. I'll be sure to keep these posts handy for the next time I hear "no one else has a collection that consumes this much space!"

I'm pretty serious about coin photography, Cajunlady. For me, the investment is worth it. In truth, though, I only have about $2500 invested in photography equipment; plenty of members here will spend that much on a single coin. Just for the fun of it, here's the imaging process at work: The wire dangling in front of the Asus is a direct USB connection from the camera to the computer. I control the camera completely from the keyboard/mouse, and do not touch it after initial setup. On the Asus you see Canon's ZoomBrowser software; the small box on the top right is where I set the parameters of the shot - ISO, exposure, white balance, everything. With the Rodagon, aperture is set at the lens, but I could control it as well were the lens electronically-linked to the camera as a stock Canon lens would be. The image on the Asus is the last one shot. On the Dell is the coin I'm shooting, shown in real time exactly as the camera sees it right now. The detail image in the box is what I use for focusing; I blow that up to full size to focus, but I downsized it so you could see that it also presents the full-sensor image, allowing me to ensure that the coin is centered and rotated properly. The exact setup you see on the Dell resulted in this image, an untouched .jpg downsized to 25% but with no other processing: Chances are it won't display full size on your monitor; even at 25% it's still 1296x864 pixels. The Rodagon is so sharp that I don't actually use Canon's .jpg processing as seen here (the resulting image is literally *too* sharp); I shoot RAW and convert that exactly with the slightest bit of sharpening in some cases. This LWC won't be one of those cases.
