Bronze Roman Coins Painted? - Coin Community Forum

matis New Member United States 8 Posts	Posted 12/29/2011 1:23 pm I am watching some auctions on ebay. Several bronze coins from this seller seem to be "painted" with some black substance. Look at the links below (check the close-up shot of the images) and tell me if I am imagining it. Doucet Pillar of the Community United States 1315 Posts	Posted 12/29/2011 2:03 pm It may have more to do with the photography, B&W flash, that makes them dark gray and all look the same. Why? I have never bought one here but a lot of people have. Some have looked tooled to me. It's good your asking questions before jumping right in. One of my rules to myself is that if I have a bad feeling about any particular coin, I stay away. It's better to be safe and begin the hunt another day. However, I have bought from this seller several times in the past and have never been disappointed. His images always look the same. I just received two coins from him prior to Christmas. They are neither painted nor altered in any way I can tell. I should tell you they are so that there is less competition, right? I have even recommend this seller to others on this forum. Good luck.
