1921 Gold Soverign ?

There were no half-sovereigns minted in 1921. If it's a sovereign, the mint mark M, P or S should be above the date, in the edge of the ground as it were, between the 9 and 2.

A Half sovereign is 19 mm in diameter, a full sovereign is 21.5, and a nickel is 21.2, so if this item is smaller than a nickel, it can't be a half sovereign as they don't exist for 1921, and it can't be a sovereign because it's too small.

All this leads me to believe it to be a facsimile, and then that begs the question, is it in fact gold? I guess if it's been worn as jewellery, one could assume that it might be gold, but I doubt that is will be worth more than gold value as the Obverse is pretty scratched up, and as a rule collectors aren't too keen on coins that have had something attached to them.

Others may have different opinions on this though.

i seen one of these last week on a necklace, the girl said it was a wedding present from some old fella she used to serve in a shop somewhere. looked very nice, well on her it did :)

the half sovereign weighs a tad under 4 grammes, the sovereign twice as much.
