In filling my dansco with BU Kennedy halves, I just for the life of me cannot find a nice BU 1988P from circulation. Even ones with nice crisp shiny reeding have very poor detail on the obverse. I notice once you get to 1989 the quality goes way up. Was Philadelphia having problems turning out halves that year that had any strike quality to them? I have been through over $40,000 in halves by now and still can't find an appealing 1988P.

I had to lower my definition of "appealing" for the 1988-P also. It's a nice bright one, with shiny reeding, but like you said, the strike is certainly sub-par. It'll be interesting to see if anyone has any definite knowledge on the problem. I'm sure I've been through $40k - $50k also. (I hope we're not both looking at the same halves ).
