E Pluribus Unum - We were taught in grade school it was "out of many, one" and originally meant to represent the union of the 13 individual colonies to create a united country. Our development as a nation is dynamic so the concept that it has evolved and expanded in meaning to represent the Uniting of people from many backgrounds and cultures works for me too.

I like them both...I'm not very religious and the God doesn't bug me...

I like them both except as the edge inscription of the new golden dollars. After much public complaining the "In God We Trust" was returned to the obverse on the dollars. Wish they would move the date, mint mark, and E Pluribus Unum there also. Dates & mint marks are cumbersome to read on the edge.

I'm for changing all our coinage to latin for everything including the denomination. Picture our Quarter with a XXV. Remember the V nickels. That was Latin and looked OK. All wording in Latin too. Should be done soon or the way things are going around here, all our coins will be called Peso's.

I like Latin numbers more on dollar bills than on coins.

Yes, the Latin might seem fine, and they are still on coins, but in smaller letters, smaller the In God We Trust. I agree with the one saying that not everyone is religious. The WE in the phrase generally means the Americans, or the legal residents of the United States. Not all of a them are religious.

The phrase "e pluribus unum" is from an essay by Marcus Tullius Cicero about salad making. I'm fond of salads, so I favor keeping the phrase.

I'm indifferent on the latin phrase, but In God We Trust is a must to me

I have a suggestion for a new phrase for our coinage (especially the penny):
"Don't spend it all at one place"

Maybe it's just the Roman coin collector in me, but I like for them to change the U's to V's again just like on the Standing Liberty quarter and the Peace dollar: "E PLVRIBVS VNVM and "IN GOD WE TRVST".

Sounds more historical. Just like the phlidalphia mint, they have the sentence "Vnited States Mint" on the top of the front.

Probably the only reason why they won't do it unfortunately, I think, is that the general public will notice it and think the Mint goofed and misspelled the words. Kind of like how the Mint thought people were going to hoard the Westward Journey nickel with the ocean on the reverse if they put William Clark's original phrase "Ocian in view! O! The Joy!", and so they had "Ocian" changed to "Ocean".

I think dates should be binary. For example, 2012 would be 11111011100

I guess these things say a lot about how you want to say about your country.
The Latin suggests that some people had an obsession with the Roman empire, hence all the neo-roman architecture. So does the US want to be Rome with all the possibilities that could be suggested for what this means?
In God we Trust is probably even worse. It suggests that a country that supposedly allows religion freedom, including the freedom to be atheist, is being rather contradictory. Just like "All men are created equal" there seems to be fine print that cannot be read, what with slavery and segregation, genocide against Native Americans and the US foreign policy over the last 100 years or so.
I know some people might feel offended by this stuff, but A) that is not my intention, I am British but have lived in the US and I can see the bad my own country has done and I have accepted that it is bad and B) I am not trying to get into any political debate other than to say how something like "In God we Trust" comes across to certain people, and whether this is the image that you want to present to the country and the world.
