I'm trying to put together a one-a-year set of irradiated Mercury dimes. I only have a handful so far, and 1921 will be difficult, but if I just pick them up here and there when I can, maybe it's possible.

Quote:I guess "27 Days of Mercury dimes" doesn't have a halftime - Maybe we'll need to put together a first-half highlight reel. We will have more like a "7th inning stretch" There's no Feb 6th on Moe's schedule. As to the highlight reel, mine fall in the "lowlight" category

Quote: your set is a lot more complete than mine But your quality trumps my quantity. That radiated dime is interesting. I read up on them and am still not sure of their purpose

They were a tourist-trap type thing, like elongated or counterstamped cents. It was the atomic age, and everything atomic related was newfangled and cool. You could go to the atomic energy museum, get your dime irradiated, hear it on a Geiger counter, and then have a little souvenir to take home (though most of the radioactivity was gone by the time you left). It seems slightly crazy nowadays (though it was an exceedingly harmless amount of radiation), but there was stuff that was much, much crazier.

It's been a great show so far guys. Sorry I do not have photos of my set but they mirror many of the circulated ones that we have seen. I'm looking forward to progressively better examples and maybe even a proof before this ends.
