This is one I picked out of a junk bin for about melt, it may have been dipped or cleaned, but for the price...

The obverse die shows quite a bit of trauma. It's not a really late die state because it doesn't really show that much die wear, but there are cracks all over the place, and signs of heavy polishing, probably to remove clashing. There is die burn all around the bust and a broken nose effect.

1940's and above have many varieties, this will be some of the picture I am uploading here for the first time.

1940 P I need to replace this one from another that I am too lazy to switch for the moment.

1940 D has a semi matte proof-like finish on this one that when I first saw it I thought it was a proof until I flip it over.

1940 S has a proof like field except that it is the mint polish off the nose.

Bonus 3: NGC Proof 66. The toning isn't that strong, but in order to get the reflection off, I have to shot this with low exposure setting.

I like the idea of Ikes but, technically, they're considered Modern US coins versus Classic US coins.

The Classics are (In Red have been previously done in a "Days of ..." thread either alone or with another coin type):

Half Cents
Large Cents
Flying Eagle cents
Indian cents
Two Cents
Three Cents

Half Dimes
Shield nickels
Liberty V nickels
Buffalo nickels
Mercury Dimes
Twenty Cents
Standing Liberty quarters
Walking Liberty half Dollars

Trade dollars
Morgan Dollars
Peace dollars
Flowing Hair Coinage
Capped Bust Half Dollars
Draped Bust Half Dollars
Other Bust Coins
Seated Liberty Coinage
Barber coinage
Gold Coins
US Coin Type 7070 Dansco Album

I'll be making a New Topic Poll for this idea but you all should start thinking about it now!

(I love the idea of Ikes or Franklins Halfs but, again, they are Moderns...)

NOTE: I have NO PROBLEM with revisiting any of the above coin types!

You know what? That list tells me that there is some sort of conspicuous anti-Nickel discrimination going on. Every other denomination has had a run and some have had two or three!
