My thoughts too Mike. Who held this or what did it see?

One of my big questions is when did it cease to circulate. Based on the wear patterns, it appears to have circulated after the damage occurred. Was it as late as the 1850's before somebody finally decided it was worth saving?
And how did the damage occur? Did a horse step on it while it was lying on a dirt road somewhere? The damage does not appear to have a regular pattern as intentional damage often does.
Very cool start to a Flowing Hair set.
Glad to see somebody else besides me appreciates this design, which happens to be my favorite. If I had unlimited $ and could only own one coin, it would be a mid-grade 1794 Flowing Hair dollar. Maybe someday...

Mike . . some good thoughts you brought up

Dave . . very nice - as I have said in the past, I love anything that starts with "179" - and since you asked, here is my only one

vermontensium and jeffrose - thanks for sharing these incredible coins.

I wish I had one as I really enjoy the oldies.

Awesome.......just awesome. I'll echo the sentiment of others, wondering who, what, where, when those coins passed through hands, general stores, bank robberies, stage coach holdups, etc. Or was that dime someone's daily salary at one time, or did it buy a sack full of goods at the trading post? Amazing.

That's a beautiful coin Jeff! I've studied this coin extensively Mike and have pondered the damage too. These early Half Dimes are paper thin so it could have easily been stepped on by a hoof or carriage wheel, who knows!
What amazes me the most is this could have been in George Washington's hand at one time.
Thanks for the nice comments everyone!

Fabulous two coins shown (so far) ... alas I have no coins to add to the discussion.

Dave ... great thoughts on how your Half Dime came to be what it is today ... the stories that coin could tell.

Jeff ... outstanding example ... another feather in your cap IMHO as a contributor to our collective joy at the CCF.

I value and appreciate the joy of holding in my hands a classic coin in honestly circulated condition ... wondering about the twists of fate that led the coin to it's current condition ... and imagining the history that the coin has experienced.

Suppose that is the reason I am pursuing the maybe impossible quest of a complete cirulated US classic silver commemorative 50-coin type set ...

Hoping to see some more lovely Flowing Hair examples.

David

I want to participate in this thread but I have none to share. Great coins vermontensium and jeffrose! Just seeing those is almost as good as being able to own one.

Have my eye on a nice VF Liberty Cap Large Cent. It's one of my wish list coins for this year.
