Swiss Francs - Correction Orientation?

I have three Swiss coins: 1/2 Franc 1968B 2 Francs 1975 2 Francs 1995B For all my other Swiss coins, the obverse and reverse are orientated identically. That is, if I simply rotate the coins along the x-axis, the obverse and reverse always correctly point towards the positive y-axis. However, for the three coins I mentioned, it's not like that. The first two coins have the reverse in the negative y-axis when rotated. However, the third coin is like the other Swiss coins (Rappens) in that it rotates in the same positive y-axis. Are these errors? Did the Swiss mint simply change it for no reason? Edited by Stan 01/29/2012 6:33 pm Report this Post to the Staff

chrisild Pillar of the Community Germany 1238 Posts	Posted 01/30/2012 06:29 am Switzerland actually used both orientations for years: The rappen/centime coins had parallel alignment (ie. what Americans call "medal" orientation), the franken/franc coins had inverse alignment (US: "coin orientation"). Then, 30 years ago, they switched to parallel alignment for all coins, which is what most countries use.
